In January 2023, I stepped into the role of owner and President of Lapatka Associates, taking the reins from my father who had passed away suddenly after successfully leading the company for almost 40 years. I had worked at Lapatka Associates for almost fifteen years but had left almost a decade ago to run my own businesses. Taking over Lapatka Associates has been a very challenging experience because my father was intimately embedded in the businesses, making all management decisions and having all the processes in his head.
When I took over, I confirmed that we had almost no standard processes, gaps in accountability and communication, and essentially doing great engineering and surveying work for our clients almost for free. Our company has been hit with unforeseeable obstacles time and time again over the last few years, and from when Arlon the Analyst arrived through the high intensity phase where Yaw the Project director has been on the ground with us for an intensive six weeks, Cogent has been able to target the issues and come up with resolutions for these obstacles in order to bring the company into a new future by establishing methods and procedures to transform the company for a new generation, while garnering the company to meet new successes and accomplishments.
