Billy began working at Cogent in 2022 and is a Project Director. He graduated with honors from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia with majors in Accounting and Information Technology. He is licensed in Virginia as a Certified Public Accountant and was formerly licensed as a Certified Fraud Examiner.
Billy’s passion for small business started when he began his own company, and was further ignited after entering the real estate marketing industry. In this role he quickly took the reins as a Director of Operations and helped to grow the clientele from 5 to more than 60 in just 2 years. He accomplished this by creating a collaborative team that worked to refine their processes and strategic objectives.
Billy is a self-proclaimed and proud “nerd” who’s always had an affinity for acquiring random knowledge. He spends much of his free time watching trivia shows or going down Wikipedia “rabbit holes.” He once passed the test to be on the hit TV quiz show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” He loves music, singing, and nearly all competitive sports. Billy puts his all into helping his Cogent clients. He understands that they are people with families just like him, and family is a priority for Billy. He loves coaching his oldest son’s basketball team, playing “Hello Neighbor” or “Roblox” with his middle son, and singing Karaoke or having a tea party with his daughter.
Billy recognizes that people spend at least one-third of their days working and wants to ensure that, for him, he’s investing his time in something that leaves the world a better place. Helping small business owners and employees, in turn, helps their families thrive in the same way he wants his own family to flourish. Billy is guided by this quote from Benjamin Hardy – “Unsuccessful people make their decisions based on their current situations. Successful people make their decisions based on where they want to be.”
